Fishing in Eden

By William Nelson

A highly respected and admired fisherman, Nelson published his reminiscences of 50 years angling in the Eden and Eamont valleys in 1922.  In it he describes a lifetime of fishing,  from his early introduction and apprenticeship to the sport with "Bob," to his extensive knowledge of the local habitat and landscape.   Contains his observations of trout behaviour, and many practical notes on insects and flies.  Includes a colour plate of typical Eden flies.

With an introductory biographical essay by John Austin and an appreciation of the River Eden by Malcolm Greenhalgh.

Three In Norway now available! (18/02/2009 @ 17:08:24)

We are pleased to announce that our new edition of

Three In Norway
By Two of Them

is now in stock and available priced at £79.00

This enjoyable tale of three friends travelling across Norway to fish and shoot through one long summer is a classic of angling literature.
Our binders found some superb ice-blue goatskin which we felt was especially appropriate for this edition. The first fifty copies have been beautifully bound in this natural goatskin with silver-gilt top edge and hand-marbled end papers. Further copies will be bound in the same colour and format,  but in the high-quality bonded leather used in all previous Flyfisher's Classic Library editions. Either binding will make a fantastic addition to your Flyfisher's Classic Library collection.

Three In Norway will be followed throughout this year with a number of new titles in an exciting publishing schedule for the Flyfisher's Classic Library.

The return of Three in Norway! (16/01/2009 @ 11:13:10)

Our main interest is in publishing Fine Limited Edition angling books, but we are also committed to making available the best of classic angling literature at prices that everyone can afford. We intend bringing back into print a number of books that FFCL previously published in very small numbers. Our first reissue is of one of the funniest and most enjoyable angling books ever- THREE IN NORWAY, BY TWO OF THEM. There is a new leather-bound edition as well as a "reader's edition"; a high-quality paperback at just £19.95. Both are available now.
More titles are planned early in 2009. including THE WAY OF A TROUT WITH A FLY by G.E.M. Skues, GRAYLING FISHING by W. Carter Platts, BROOK AND RIVER TROUTING by Edmonds and Lee, FISHING IN EDEN by William Nelson and newly illustrated edition of W.C. Stewart's PRACTICAL ANGLER.

Out-of-print titles back in stock. (08/10/2008 @ 20:29:17)

As the Flyfisher's Classic Library settles into its new home in Wales and as we gradually unpack all of the boxes we are finding a few nice surprises. We have found more copies of several titles previously thought to have been out-of-print. The Best Of Zane Grey and The House The Hardy Brothers Built are now back in stock, but probably not for long!

The Flyfisher's Classic Library emigrates to Wales!! (19/06/2008 @ 11:33:57)

In an exciting move, Flyfisher's Classic Library has merged with leading angling bookseller Coch-y-Bonddu Books from Mid Wales. Owner, Paul Morgan (yes - that's me), does not intend any immediate changes to the way FFCL operates. The FFCL website will continue to function independently while orders will be fulfilled by Paul's efficient team in Machynlleth.

"I have enjoyed working with Flyfisher's Classic Library ever since Justin Knowles started the company about twenty years ago. I would visit Justin in his vineyard overlooking Bovey Tracy, often making a delivery of antiquarian angling books that he was considering republishing, and, of course, topping up my stock of Flyfisher's books. At that time it suited both of us very well to distribute FFCL books as widely as possible, helping him to make room for new titles while I pursued Coch-y-Bonddu Books' ethic of supplying practical fishing books at an affordable price. Justin died a few years ago and since then FFCL has changed hands a few times. However, the two front-line staff, Cath Pettyfer and Christine Humphrey, continued running the business, producing some of the very highest quality editions of some of the best of flyfishing literature. They have both now moved on to other things so there is no longer the need for FFCL to be based in Devon.
I am thrilled to have the opportunity of carrying on with Justin's project, and excited and a little daunted at the prospect of maintaining and expanding the Flyfisher's publishing schedule, which fits so very well with what we are doing at Coch-y-Bonddu Books. One of our main interests is in publishing and selling Fine Limited Edition angling books, and we already carry deluxe editions from other publishers such as Medlar Press, Ken Smith (formerly of Smith Settle), Meadow Run Press and others.
In addition we can now enable the members and customers of FFCL to access the huge range of second-hand and out-of-print angling books carried by Coch-y-Bonddu Books.
While my staff are busy preparing a home for the substantial stock of new Flyfisher's books, I am working away trying catalogue thousands more antiquarian fishing books. And having lots of fun!"
